suggested friends in margate ?

ok, so i said i was going to start writing in this again and did it twice and then didn’t do anything and now i’ve kind of got too much to catch up on. oops. i might do that later, i might not, i don’t know anymore. i have a bunch of videographic material from around halloween that needs editing but.. stuff.

anyway, yesterday was supposed to be just another boring wednesday night. i had work, i did some laundry and the weekly food shop was due to arrive between 7.30 and 8.30pm, but then i got a text from my pal ed asking if i was going to see suggested friends in margate and i was like no, but if you’re driving i’ll come along. which is what i did, and carl put the shopping away (i’m going to spend the next week trying to figure out where everything is like the last time he did it…) i was supposed to see suggested friends in rainham back in october but then the date was changed to the one saturday i was not in medway and had other plans at the other end of this island. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i met a very cute dog in a rainbow jumper with a fabulous owner in the biggest faux fur coat, and my friend emma who was putting the gig on was happy to see me (i didn’t tell her i was coming. surprise!) and i took some nice pictures of suggested friends. it appears i’m utterly obsessed with the huji cam app. i just wish it didn’t pretend it’s 1998, and actually put the right year in the time stamp. i usually crop it out but this time.. i just didn’t.

LOOK WHO’S BACK ~~ a quick life update ✨

ok i’ve decided i’m going to try to do this blogging thing again, and have a website with my things on it, like back in the day. we will see how it goes. i feel like i should start with a life update. it’s been a while since one of those, 2 of my last three blog posts were birthday wish lists and that doesn’t even include this year’s, and that 1 other things was an end of the year round up for 2016. geez. shit has happened since, but i guess also not that much?

i still have the same job i got at the end of september in 2016, but i transitioned into a home worker at the end of september, and i no longer have to drag myself to shittingbourne and back 4 times a week. i’m still settling in and i need to figure out a proper routine for myself but so far it has been an improvement and i feel like i’m actually getting more work done alone at home, than i did at the office. in more sense than one. though i am starting to feel a bit lonely now. i haven’t really spoken to anyone in person other than carl and retail staff. i have however been leaving the house at least 2 times each week so far. so that’s something i guess? but it’s mostly been to go out to buy halloween tat. (i have a problem) luckily i have social plans this thursday and friday AND next thursday and friday. (carl’s mum’s birthday dinner, punching swans’ gig + emma’s staying over, hamilton in london with lori & her fam, and loco cabaret’s halloween do.) and then the wednesday night after that i’m off to glasgow for halloween fun times.

in other news i finally did it, i finally dyed my hair a bright, unnatural colour back in april. i bought two tubs of directions’ alpine green from the local hair supply shop and marched to the budget hairdressers and they bleach my hair and put the green in. it was supposed to be a subtle very dark turqouise-ish green but my hair said nope to subtle and it came out bright as fuck turquoise. not exactly as planned but it looked amazing. and it faded to a super cute mint, much slower than i expected. in july i had my roots done but unfortunately that particular hairdresser didn’t have any previous experience with bright colours and it came out not right. this time i’d bought a crazy color green (can’t remember what shade and apparently i didn’t document it anywhere) and she put the dye on the bleached roots, left it and then added it to the rest of the hair about 10 mins before washing it all off and well, it kinda didn’t take much to the ends. also the crazy color washed off pretty quickly compared to directions. last week it was finally time to get the roots done and this time i asked specifically for someone who has experience with bright colours, and i brought in 2 pots of directions’ apple green. and i’m all nice and bright green ready for halloween. i do kind of want to try colour other than green at some point but so far the green hasn’t faded enough to properly change colours. apparently green is really hard to get out but hey i didn’t think of that before

i think that’s the main stuff really. other than that, it’s pretty much been same shit different day. life only changes so much when you’re in your damn 30s, and in a longterm relationship.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

earlier this month i finally got to go to a FAT POSITIVE CLOTHES SWAP. i had been wanting to go to one since i first heard about them over a year ago. but every single time i’ve been either busy with something else, stuck at work or too broke for the train fare. usually a combo of the last two. but when this one (number eight!) was announced i was like I’M GOING THIS TIME, I DONT CARE WHAT. it being on a sunday this time helped with the work issue ha ha. and even though i’m currently hella broke and my rail card had run out on halloween and thus my train ticket was like 1/3 more than expected and trains were obvs all fucked I HAVE NO REGRETS. it was totally worth the effort. everyone was super duper nice and helping each other and even pickin stuff up for each other and just so nice. and honestly i have no words and you should go to the next one if you can. i’ve been struggling to write about it in any meaningful way / describe how awesome it was without just simply making gushing sounds ~ hence why it’s taken me ALMOST THREE WEEKS to write this… however i did do ~*a haul video*~ (cos ingrid said i should) a few days after the swap itself. it’s kind of long and rambly. deal with it.
a few days later i went outside and wore the long grey dress and when i got home it was still kinda light enough to take an OOTD. and then i took pictures in some of the other clothes too while the dinner was in the oven. so far i have only worn the grey dress (two or three times) the scarlett & jo skirt, stripy bat sleeve top and an almost matching black & grey stripey maxi skirt i appear to have forgotten to show off… oops. i’m going to a birthday barbecue on friday (yeah, barbecue in december.) and on saturday my friend cath is coming to medway to play a gig at poco loco with a million other things so i’ll have occasion to wear things! the pink papaya weekend dress will def get an outing but i haven’t decided which occasion gets that honour. (semi wish i could wear it both times, but sadly i’m a sweaty betty so probably not…)
ANYWAY, the next fat positive clothes swap is marked on the calendar under 21st February at DIY Space For London. unfortunately the swap doesn’t have any specific place i can link to but you can keep an eye on the Fat Positive London facebook group or @DIYArchivist (one of the organisers) on the twitter. i’ll most probably be retweeting the heck out of any announcements. if you don’t believe me, here’s an article about the swaps from Standard Issue magazine from back in june featuring some friends, and more words. someone was also making a video about the swap, and i was interviewed for it but it hasn’t surfaced yet. (i’ll probably post it when it does) while we’re linking things, here’s a article that bethany of arched eyebrow wrote a few weeks ago that was really good about ok?
