‘quick’ pre-chrimbo update.

been quiet. been busy. doing a lot of crochet for presents. and working. not much to say about anything.

christmas decorations.

i’ve been also making fudge. the first patch i made went a bit wrong; it didn’t set. it seems i hadn’t heated it up enough, i was so worried i would burn the fudge so i kept the temperature quite low, and besides the mix wasn’t even bubbling at any point in the recipe video. so i had to reheat it. this time i let it bubble quite a lot during the 15 minute period and it worked! may have overdone it a little bit cos it ended up being a lot firmer than the fudge the homemade fudge stand in the shopping centre i work. but it tasted good and everyone who tasted it gave it two thumbs up. i made another patch yesterday (with higher heat, and actually bubbling during the fifteen minutes stirring on the hob) and added a teaspoon of cinnamon for festive fun and it turned out A+++. still firmer than fudge stand fudge but better than first lot. it’s all technically for presents but i’ve kind of been nibbling on it. it’s pretty moorish. i think my teeth might fall off.

i still have work tomorrow, boo! and i’m going in at 8.30am, extra boo! but i finish at early at 1pm and then i don’t have to go back until next year which is nice. and i got a beyonce perfume as a christmas present so that’s nice too. (i would bloody love not to have to work on christmas eve sometime though. maybe next year??) i still have a few more things to sort out tomorrow after work, and we have wrapped NOTHING yet. (i wanted to document what we/i’ve got and made people but it’s been dark and horrid when i’ve been home and i can’t find my camera and not everything is quite done. i had yesterday off but it was a bit of a bust when it came to doing things other than laundry and fudge.) carl’s home tomorrow but i usually do the wrapping cos i kinda like it and i’m pretty good at it. we’re going to carl’s mum’s tomorrow night as usual though and i’m a bit worried we won’t be ready to go on time D: so i should better go on with it. and i have at least one more crochet project that needs to be 100% finished. it’s gonna be pretty full on on christmas day, it’s gonna be me, carl, his ma & 2 brothers, and 1 brother’s partner and her four kids (one of them is also his). yowzers. actual kids at christmas! that should be interesting, i haven’t had one of those since i was a kid myself and my family’s finnish christmas was pretty chill and pretty different from how it’s here…

anyway, whatever you celebrate this week (if you celebrate anything) i hope it’s a good one xxx (SHIT IS THAT THE TIME) here’s my off beat finnish christmas song playlist.

all i want for christmas is a bunch of comic books, apparently

hello kitty mousemat. (pref nice bright one, not one of the pale pink pastelly ones with no outline..)

pyjama bottoms. preferably on the baggy side with cuffs on bottom. i believe primark calls them ‘cuff leg pj bottoms’.
no minions pls. at least uk size 18-20? (or at primark they have mens ones like that in simpsons, avengers or animal from muppets, think those in XL would be def nice and loose enough ha ha, their 18/20s are sometimes a bit on the snug side wah)

errrrmmm some graphic novels (i’m starting to sense a theme here!)
NIMONA by Noelle Stevenson (X)
TOMBOY by Liz Prince (X)
IN REAL LIFE by Cody Doctorow & Jen Wang (X)
THROUGH THE WOODS by Emily Carroll (X)

some nice smelling wax melt thingies, and candles (really into black and/or pastel ones) & candle holders (plain)

these weird wall hanging plant pots are pretty cool. they’re called ‘Rainy Pot’.

if you were planning to get me a knitting / crochet book, you might as well make it this one.

there we are. i suppose it’s a fairly long list but i’m in no way expecting all of it omg no. actually, not expecting anyone to spend much on me as i myself am broke as heck and can’t spend much on anyone. i will be making most of the presents i’m handing out this year. spending all my pennies on wool ha ha (no actually i’ve got a pretty decent wool stash so i’m going to try to use as much of that as i can). i did think earlier i might like some hair straighteners or a blender but something. i’m pretty easy to buy for anyway, and i dont have expensive taste. if it’s got hello kitty or kitties in general or skulls or spoopy things or moomins, and you’re pretty much sorted! or a voucher to buy more wool or jammies ha ha.

FAT POSITIVE CLOTHES SWAP ♥ ♥ ♥

earlier this month i finally got to go to a FAT POSITIVE CLOTHES SWAP. i had been wanting to go to one since i first heard about them over a year ago. but every single time i’ve been either busy with something else, stuck at work or too broke for the train fare. usually a combo of the last two. but when this one (number eight!) was announced i was like I’M GOING THIS TIME, I DONT CARE WHAT. it being on a sunday this time helped with the work issue ha ha. and even though i’m currently hella broke and my rail card had run out on halloween and thus my train ticket was like 1/3 more than expected and trains were obvs all fucked I HAVE NO REGRETS. it was totally worth the effort. everyone was super duper nice and helping each other and even pickin stuff up for each other and just so nice. and honestly i have no words and you should go to the next one if you can. i’ve been struggling to write about it in any meaningful way / describe how awesome it was without just simply making gushing sounds ~ hence why it’s taken me ALMOST THREE WEEKS to write this… however i did do ~*a haul video*~ (cos ingrid said i should) a few days after the swap itself. it’s kind of long and rambly. deal with it.

a few days later i went outside and wore the long grey dress and when i got home it was still kinda light enough to take an OOTD. and then i took pictures in some of the other clothes too while the dinner was in the oven. so far i have only worn the grey dress (two or three times) the scarlett & jo skirt, stripy bat sleeve top and an almost matching black & grey stripey maxi skirt i appear to have forgotten to show off… oops. i’m going to a birthday barbecue on friday (yeah, barbecue in december.) and on saturday my friend cath is coming to medway to play a gig at poco loco with a million other things so i’ll have occasion to wear things! the pink papaya weekend dress will def get an outing but i haven’t decided which occasion gets that honour. (semi wish i could wear it both times, but sadly i’m a sweaty betty so probably not…)

ANYWAY, the next fat positive clothes swap is marked on the calendar under 21st February at DIY Space For London. unfortunately the swap doesn’t have any specific place i can link to but you can keep an eye on the Fat Positive London facebook group or @DIYArchivist (one of the organisers) on the twitter. i’ll most probably be retweeting the heck out of any announcements. if you don’t believe me, here’s an article about the swaps from Standard Issue magazine from back in june featuring some friends, and more words. someone was also making a video about the swap, and i was interviewed for it but it hasn’t surfaced yet. (i’ll probably post it when it does) while we’re linking things, here’s a article that bethany of arched eyebrow wrote a few weeks ago that was really good about ok?
